ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 2-ranked Georgia football team relied on a prolific passing attack to knock off Vanderbilt, 38-14, at Sanford Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Gunner Stockton threw three touchdown passes and the Bulldogs gained 295 yards through the air in the Homecoming win.

With the Bulldog rushing attack held in check for much of the game, Stockton and the passing game picked the Commodores apart on numerous lengthy drives. Stockton completed 25 of 32 passes for a season-high 295 yards. He also ran the ball seven times for 22 yards. Georgia (5-0, 3-0 SEC), which got a 59-yard run from Bo Walker in the final minutes, finished with 176 rushing yards on 34 carries.

Defensively, Georgia held Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2) to 293 yards of offense, including just 61 in the second half. Safety KJ Bolden and linebacker Raylen Wilson had seven tackles each to pace the defense. It was the Bulldogs’ seventh straight win over the Commodores.

Second-ranked Georgia is off to a 5-0 start for the seventh time in 11 seasons under head coach Kirby Smart.

The Bulldogs have scored 257 points, and that’s the second best five-game total to start a Georgia season, trailing only the 1910 team (258).

The Bulldogs are now 122-21 overall including 60-5 at home under Smart.

With a 38-14 victory today, the Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in the SEC and 33-4 in SEC home games in the Smart era.

With the latest win, the Bulldogs lead the series with VU 62-20-2 and have won the past seven meetings. Also, Georgia improves to 84-18-2 in Homecoming Games.

For the year, the Bulldogs are outscoring their opponents 257-67 for a +190 differential.

VU was blanked in the 2nd half and finished with 14 points on 293 yards on 51 plays today.

The Bulldogs are averaging an NCAA-best 54.8 points a game.

The offensive line starters have been the same every game this season in Earnest Greene III, Dontrell Glover, Drew Bobo, Zykie Helton and Juan Gaston Jr. Fifth-year All-SEC quarterback Gunner Stockton ranks second in the NCAA with a 209.1 passing efficiency rating. All-SEC tailbacks Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens lead the running game while the wideouts and tight ends have shared the load. Senior All-SEC placekicker Peyton Woodring is a weapon too.

The defense is allowing just 13.3 points a game (T1st in the SEC/18th nationally).

Georgia has started the same 11 guys through its first four games. The front and middle feature Elijah Griffin, Jordan Hall, Quintavius Johnson, Gabe Harris Jr., Chris Cole and Raylen Wilson while the back end includes All-Americans KJ Bolden and Ellis Robinson IV plus Demello Jones, Kyron Jones and Khalil Barnes. Junior Drew Miller has taken care of the punting.

The Bulldogs brought in only nine scholarship transfers this year, the fewest in the SEC.

The SEC Gauntlet Underway: The two-time defending SEC champion Bulldogs are 2-0 in league play after a 45-17 road win over Arkansas and a 41-13 victory here over #24 Oklahoma.
