ATHENS, Ga. — Members from Georgia’s top-ranked football team were named finalists and semifinalists for a variety of national awards on Tuesday, according to an ESPN announcement.
The finalists have now been named for the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) honors presented at The Home Deport College Football Awards. This year’s awards show will air on ESPN live on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. ET. ESPN’s Rece Davis will host the two-hour special, joined by analysts Dusty Dvoracek and Desmond Howard, with reporter Jen Lada.
ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia junior linebacker Nakobe Dean has been named one of six finalists for the 2021 Butkus Award given to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker, according to an announcement by the Butkus Foundation.
Dean, a native of Horn Lake, Miss., is one of two finalists from the Southeastern Conference for the 37th awarding of the honor. The winner will be announced on or before Dec. 7.
While Dean was a semifinalist for the collegiate award in 2020 and the winner of the high school Butkus Award in 2018, former Bulldog and current Tennessee Titan Monty Rice was a Butkus Award finalist in 2020. In addition, former Bulldog and current Chicago Bear Roquan Smith won the 2017 collegiate Butkus Award.
Dean is the second-leading tackler for the No. 1 Bulldogs this season with 50 stops, including a team-leading seven tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. Starting all 11 games this season as the middle of Georgia’s top-ranked defense, he has also forced a fumble, has two interceptions, including a 50-yard pick-six versus Florida, and three pass break-ups. Dean is also a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award and Wuerffel Trophy and has been named to the 2021 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Bulldogs (11-0, 8-0 SEC) travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech (3-8, 2-6 ACC) on Saturday. ABC will televise the matchup at noon.
NEWARK, N.J. – In a back-and-forth contest, the University of Georgia men’s basketball team fell to Virginia, 65-55, in the semifinals of the Roman Legends Classic Monday evening at the Prudential Center.
Senior Braelen Bridges led Georgia (2-3) in scoring with 14 points on 6-for-11 shooting with five rebounds. Saturday began and ended with Jordan Davis, the larger-than-life Georgia football star whose size and talent are only exceeded by his heart, humanity and personality.
During the pregame Senior Day festivities on Dooley Field, when all 30 of Georgia’s seniors were recognized before the top-ranked Bulldogs’ 56-7 trouncing of Charleston Southern, the loudest roar came at the end, when big No. 99 was introduced.
For those of us who know just how much his time as a Bulldog has meant to Davis, it was a goosebump moment.
Later, when the 6-foot-6 and 340-pound nose tackle lined up in the backfield and scored on a 1-yard run for the game’s first touchdown, the goosebumps returned. Davis and fellow nose tackle Jalen Carter have been blockers in Georgia’s goal line “jumbo” package several times this season, but this time it was Davis’ chance to get in the end zone.

ATHENS, Ga. — In its final home game of the season Saturday, the top-ranked Georgia football team improved to 11-0 by posting an easy 56-7 victory over Charleston Southern at Sanford Stadium.
The Bulldogs’ home finale featured a pregame sendoff of the team’s large group of seniors, including nose tackle Jordan Davis. A finalist for both the Outland and Bronko Nagurski trophies as one of the top linemen in the country, the 6-foot-6 and 340-pound Davis plunged into the end zone from the 1-yard line for Georgia’s first score of the game.
Going 11-0: With today’s 56-7 victory, top-ranked Georgia improves to 11-0 for the first time since 1982 when it finished the regular season 11-0. Also, the 1980 consensus national champion Bulldogs finished 11-0 during the regular season and then won the Sugar Bowl to cap a 12-0 run. The 1946 Bulldogs posted an 11-0 mark after going 10-0 in the regular season and then claiming the Sugar Bowl. There have been nine other teams to register at least 11 wins in a season in school history (1942; 1971; 2002; 2003; 2007; 2012; 2017; 2018 and 2019).
Georgia owns the nation’s longest active winning streak in the FBS as it improves to 15 games. This is tied for second longest in school history as the Bulldogs also won 15 straight contests from 1941-42 and 1979-81. The school record is 17 games set during a three-year stretch from 1945-47.
