UGA Track and Field: Boling Repeats As SEC Runner Of The Week

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia sophomore sprinter Matthew Boling has been named the Southeastern Conference Men’s Co-Runner of the Week for the second straight week following the Razorback Invitational, according to a league announcement.

Boling, a native of Houston, Texas, shared this week’s honor with Texas A&M’s Bryce Deadmon.  Boling was the 2020 SEC Indoor Men’s Freshman Runner of the Year and was a two-time SEC Freshman of the Week last indoor season in addition to his Co-Runner of the Week honor last week.

Boling made his season debut in the 200-meter dash and left his previous school record time of 20.66 from 2020 behind to win.  He registered a 20.53 in his fifth collegiate race at this distance.  Boling’s finish ranks No. 2 on both the 2021 NCAA and world lists.  He also remains second nationally on the 400m list (No. 3 in the world) and fifth nationally in the 60m (No. 16 in the world).  Boling is the only competitor in the Division I sprints to be ranked in the top 10 in all three of those events.

A pair of Bulldogs – senior Johannes Erm and redshirt sophomore Kyle Garland – are scheduled to compete in their first heptathlon of the year this weekend at the South Carolina Invitational.  Garland won the 2020 SEC heptathlon title while Erm captured the 2019 crown.  In fact, Georgia has been victorious in the last eight straight SEC heptathlon showdowns.

Many of our regulars have asked for years how they can contribute and help with the website. Well, we figured out a way for you to do that and get something in return!

We’ve created a FSF VIP Experience. There are two levels/tiers that we believe are very fair. On Tier 1 we’ll talk the latest info that is happening with the team and in recruiting. This will be more short snippets, like “this 5* let us know that he is planning to visit this weekend”.

Tier 2 is set up as longer posts that go into more detail. One we have up already is the behind the scenes story on the Reuben Foster recruitment, how many times he committed to UGA that we know of, and what led to him choosing Alabama. We’ll post on former and current recruitments and on current and former team news that we’ve been privy to. We’ll also do a monthly recruiting chat and a no holds barred podcast with special guests.

UGA Men’s Basketball: Dawgs Winning in Different Ways

By John Frierson
Staff Writer

In the fourth game of the Georgia men’s basketball team’s season, Tuesday night against Montana at Stegeman Coliseum, we got to see these Bulldogs continue to evolve as a unit. With eight new players on this year’s team, the Bulldogs will continue to take shape as the season progresses.

What we saw Tuesday, in Georgia’s 63-50 win over the Grizzlies, was a team with depth and muscle and speed. The Bulldogs made 10 of their first 12 shots and jumped out to a nice lead, 21-7, but the rest of the night was more of a struggle from the floor.

Despite the shooting difficulties — Georgia (4-0) finished 27 of 68 from the floor and 5 of 23 from 3-point range — the Bulldogs kept pushing and persisting at both ends of the floor. The game was, in coach Tom Crean‘s words, “the definition of a grinder.”
