UGA Women’s Softball: #14 Georgia to Host NCAA Athens Regional

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia softball team has been selected to host the 2023 NCAA Athens Regional May 19-21 at Jack Turner Stadium, the 12th NCAA Regional to be held in the Classic City.

The 14th-seeded Bulldogs will host Virginia Tech, Boston University, and North Carolina Central in the four-team, double elimination tournament beginning Friday, May 19. Georgia will play NC Central Friday at 4:30 p.m., ET, on ESPN+. The tournament will kick off Friday between Virginia Tech and Boston University at 2 p.m. on ACC Network.

Tickets are on sale now. All-session tickets will be sold for $25 each and will only be sold online in advance of the tournament. An all-session ticket grants admission to every game of the Athens Regional. All-session tickets will only be sold until Thursday, May 18 at 12 p.m., ET.

Daily tickets can be purchased online for $10 each. Daily tickets will go on sale Thursday, May 18 at 12 p.m.

All seating is general admission. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game each day.

The winner of the Athens Regional will advance to the NCAA Super Regional round against the winner of the Tallahassee Regional featuring No. 3 Florida State, South Carolina, UCF, and Marist.

Georgia will make its 21st-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and the second under head coach Tony Baldwin. Georgia is 74-41 all-time in the NCAA Tournament advancing to 11 Super Regionals and five Women’s College World Series, most recently in 2021.

The Bulldogs enter the NCAA Tournament with a 39-13 record and finished second in the SEC with a 16-7 record, its best finish since 2018. A total of six Bulldogs earned All-SEC honors.

A total of 64 teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament with 32 conferences being awarded automatic qualification, while the remaining 32 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket.

In Super Regional action, eight sites play host to a best-of-three game series with the winners earning one of eight spots in the NCAA Division I Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.

UGA Women’s Softball: Seventh Inning Rally Lifts Georgia Past Aggies, 6-5

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – A two-run seventh inning rally lifted the 18th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs past No. 24 Texas A&M, 6-5, Saturday at Davis Diamond. The victory secures Georgia’s second SEC series win.

The Bulldogs continue to climb to 23-6 on the season and 4-1 in SEC play. Georgia has won five straight.

After a 15-hit game Friday, the Bulldogs scattered 13 on Saturday, led by a career-best four hits from sophomore Lyndi Rae Davis including her first home run of the season. Sara Mosley blasted two home runs in the contest while Jaiden Fields added a home run of her own.

UGA Women’s Softball: Bulldogs Defeat Georgia State, 7-2

ATHENS, Ga. – The 19th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Georgia State Panthers Wednesday evening, 7-2, at Jack Turner Stadium.

The Bulldogs improve to 18-5 on the season heading into Southeastern Conference play set to begin this weekend in Athens against No. 18 Auburn.

Georgia’s offense scored seven runs on 10 hits led by a three-hit night from sophomore Lyndi Rae DavisSara Mosley and Jaydyn Goodwin each picked up two hits in the contest. Mosley and Goodwin joined Ally Kurland in knocking home runs Wednesday.

ATHENS, Ga. – Junior Sydney Kuma and senior Lacey Fincher each hit two home runs and combined for seven RBI in No. 15 Georgia’s 12-4 run-rule victory over No. 12 Tennessee Sunday at Jack Turner Stadium.

A crowd of 1,997 was on hand for the victory. The official attendance goes down as the fifth-largest crowd in Jack Turner Stadium.

With the win, Georgia clinches the series over Tennessee, improving to 33-8 on the season and 7-5 in SEC play. This is Georgia’s third series victory after four weeks of conference play.

UGA Women’s Softball: NCAA Gainesville Super Regional Schedule Set

ATHENS, Ga. – The 2021 NCAA Gainesville Super Regional featuring the University of Georgia and nationally-seeded No. 4 Florida, has been set.

First pitch of the best-of-three Super Regional is slated for Friday, May 28 at 5 p.m., ET, at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium and will air on ESPNU. Game two is set for noon on Saturday on ESPN. Sunday’s if necessary game is slated for noon and will also air on ESPN.

Georgia and Florida met in Athens in the regular season. The Bulldogs won the series opener 4-2 behind a one-hitter by graduate Mary Wilson Avant. Then-No. 5 Florida bounced back to win the next two games to capture the regular-season series.

The Bulldogs and Gators have met three total times in the postseason. In 2016, then-No.16 Georgia traveled to Gainesville for a matchup with top-seeded Florida in the Super Regional round. Georgia stunned the Gators, first shutting them out in game one then walking it off with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh of game two off the bat of senior Kaylee Puailoa.

Georgia and Florida matched up in Oklahoma City in 2018. Florida was victorious in the opening-round game. Georgia leads the postseason series 2-1.

The Bulldogs enter the weekend 32-21. Georgia swept the Athens Regional, beating Western Kentucky and nationally-seeded Duke to punch its ticket to this weekend’s Super Regional.

UGA Women’s Softball: Series at No. 10 Kentucky Altered Due to Rain

LEXINGTON, Ky. – This weekend’s softball series between the 20th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs and 10th-ranked Kentucky has been adjusted due to rain in the Lexington area. The three-game series will begin Sunday.

The Bulldogs and Wildcats will now square off in two games Sunday at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., ET. The opener will stream live on SEC Network+ with the 6 p.m. nightcap to air on SEC Network.

The series finale is still set for 7 p.m. Monday evening on SEC Network.

ATHENS, Ga. – Though rain washed out the final game of the Georgia Bulldogs’ slated doubleheader with the Furman Paladins, Georgia defeated Furman in its first game, 12-1, behind five home runs on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium.

This marks the first contest with five home runs this season for the Bulldogs (23-5). The last time Georgia was able to complete this feat was February 9 of last season against Bethune-Cookman. The Bulldogs also accumulated three of its five home runs in one inning, the first three-home run inning since Georgia hit three-consecutive in the first inning against Florida in 2018.

ATHENS, Ga. – The Georgia Bulldogs clinched the series over the South Carolina Gamecocks with an 11-3 run-rule victory in five innings of play on Sunday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium.

Junior Lauren Mathis (7-0) was granted the start in the circle for the Bulldogs (22-5, 2-1), her first appearance in the series. Mathis worked three innings, striking out four, walking one and allowing three runs on three hits. Senior Mary Wilson Avant entered in relief for the second game in the row. ATHENS, Ga. – The 13th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs bounced back to defeat the 15th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, 6-5, in nine innings in the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Jack Turner Stadium.

Senior Alley Cutting started at pitcher for the Bulldogs and worked six innings. During her time in the circle, Cutting struck out five, walked six and allowed four runs on seven hits. Senior Mary Wilson Avant entered in relief in the top of the seventh inning. With the game going into extras, Avant (10-4) pitched three innings, striking out seven, walking none and allowing one run on one hit, though it was an unearned run.
