ATHENS — University of Georgia J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics Greg McGarity will retire on December 31, 2020, following 10 years of service as the UGA Athletic Association’s top administrator.
“First and foremost, on behalf of the entire Bulldog Nation, I want to express my deepest gratitude to Greg for his outstanding service to the University of Georgia,” said President Jere W. Morehead. “While I had hoped Greg would continue to serve as our Athletic Director for a few more years, I understand and appreciate his and Sheryl’s decision to begin a new chapter in their lives. Greg will leave behind a strong legacy of leadership and devotion to his alma mater, having further elevated our athletic program on the national stage. I have particularly appreciated the extraordinary leadership Greg has provided during the pandemic. His calm and steady voice will be missed here and in SEC meetings.”
McGarity was a letterman on the 1973 Bulldog tennis team and began his career in athletics administration at UGA in 1977. He rose through the ranks to become Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Management in 1988. In 1992, McGarity joined the University of Florida, where he held several senior leadership roles in athletics before returning to UGA in 2010 as Athletic Director.

On Saturday, Georgia will make its fifth appearance of the season on the SEC Network, including its third straight. The Bulldogs topped Arkansas and Kentucky on the road earlier this season and have beaten Mississippi State and South Carolina in back-toback weekends on the network.
Ninth-ranked Georgia plays host to Vanderbilt on Saturday, marking the 81st matchup in a series that started in 1893. Georgia leads the all-time series 58-20-2, including a 30-7 mark in Athens. The Bulldogs are on a three-game winning streak over the Commodores. Georgia’s last loss to Vanderbilt came in Kirby Smart‘s first year as head coach in 2016 as the Commodores edged the Bulldogs 17-16. Dating back to 1995, Georgia is 22-3, including winning five out of the last six.
Last year, Vanderbilt was Georgia’s season-opening opponent for the first time since 1956. This year, the Commodores were scheduled to be the Bulldogs’ regular season finale. However, the Georgia-Missouri matchup that was postponed on Nov. 14 could now be made up on either Dec. 12 or 19.

ATHENS, Ga. – Led by a pair of double-doubles, the University of Georgia men’s basketball team opened its 2020-21 season with an 85-75 over Florida A&M Sunday afternoon before 1,638 spectators at Stegeman Coliseum. The Bulldogs (1-0) were able to pull away late from the Rattlers (0-2) on the strength of 58 percent shooting in the second half, as well as a stout showing from their bench.
Stony Brook transfer Andrew Garcia led all scorers with 22 points on 6-of-8 shooting, along with four rebounds and two steals. Junior Tye Fagan posted a career-high 21 points on 9-of-10 shooting, picking up his first career double-double with a team-best 10 rebounds.
