On Saturday, Georgia will make its first of at least three scheduled appearances on CBS this season. The network will televise the Tennessee game in Athens at 3:30 p.m. The Bulldogs’ all-time record on CBS is 61- 42-1. The Alabama game (Oct. 17, 8 p.m. ET) and the Florida contest (Nov. 7, 3:30 p.m.) are also slated to be on the network.

University of Georgia head football coach Kirby Smart and several Bulldog student-athletes offered the following comments on Monday.

Opening statement … 

“It’s on to Tennessee. Jeremy [Pruitt] has done a tremendous job putting together a really good football team. He has built his team along the offensive and defensive line of scrimmages, and they have a good football team. They are very physical. They are very experienced at quarterback. They are very experienced in the secondary. I have a lot of respect for the way they play the game. I thought last year they played extremely physical against us — that’s the brand of football they play. I’ve got a lot of respect for that. I’ve known Jeremy for a long time, and it’s going to be two good football teams getting after it.”

On if he had a sense at the Sugar Bowl Cade Mays was planning to transfer … 

“No. I didn’t have a sense then. I thought Cade had done a tremendous job for us. I’ve got a lot of respect for Cade as a player and a person. That’s all I can say about it. He’s no longer with us. I am looking forward to the matchup. He’s a really good football player, one of the toughest players that I have been around, and I am looking forward to the matchup.”

On the waiver the SEC gave several players …

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia senior offensive guard Ben Cleveland has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, according to a league announcement.

This marks the second career SEC weekly honor for Cleveland.  He was also awarded the accolade following the shutout victory versus Missouri in 2019.  This is also the Bulldogs’ second weekly honor this season (Sept. 28, P Jake Camarda – Special Teams).

Cleveland, a native of Toccoa, Ga., had five knockdown blocks and graded out at 83 percent during the Bulldogs’ 27-6 win over No. 7 Auburn.  Part of a newly aligned unit after three 2019 Bulldog linemen were drafted, Cleveland helped allow Georgia’s backs to go for 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries (4.5 average).  Cleveland helped first-year starting quarterback Stetson Bennett get sacked only a single time against the Tigers.

The No. 3 Bulldogs (2-0 SEC) play host to No. 14 Tennessee (2-0 SEC) on Saturday.  CBS will televise the matchup at 3:30 p.m.

ATHENS, Ga. – The fourth-ranked Georgia Bulldogs defeated the seventh-ranked Auburn Tigers, 27-6, under the lights of Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium Saturday night in front of 20,524 spectators and an ESPN primetime audience.

“It sure felt like more than [20,524], but it felt like a lot of fans out there. I thought the crowd noise was helpful,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. “I thought we showed improvement. We left a lot of plays out there. I thought we played really hard defensively but sloppy on third down. I thought offensively, when we play clean, meaning we don’t have a busted assignment, a penalty, or somebody doesn’t know what they’re doing, we do well; but we can go backwards as quickly as we can forwards offensively, and we probably left more out there.”

Redshirt-junior quarterback Stetson Bennett completed 17 passes on 28 attempts, totaling 240 yards with a touchdown in his first career start directing the Georgia offense. Redshirt-freshman Kearis Jackson recorded career highs with nine catches and 147 yards including a 49-yard catch, a career-long.
