SEC Nation In Starkville

The SEC Nation traveling show will be covering the Georgia-MSU game. This marks the second time this year that they will see the Bulldogs in action. Laura Rutledge serves as host and will be joined by Paul Finebaum, Roman Harper, Jordan Rodgers and Tim Tebow.

Fast Facts On The Georgia-MSU Series

Fifth-ranked Georgia (7-1, 5-1 SEC) and host MSU (5-4, 1-4 SEC) are coming off wins when they meet in Starkville Saturday at noon ET. Last Saturday in Jacksonville, the Bulldogs rallied for a 24-20 victory over Florida while MSU captured its first league win by beating Arkansas 38-35 in Fayetteville.

Georgia leads the series 21-6. Last year in Athens, Georgia posted 605 yards of total offense in a 41-31 win for its fifth straight victory over MSU. Georgia’s last visit to Starkville came in 2022, and the Red and Black Bulldogs came home with a 45-19 win.

Georgia is averaging 32.5 points a game while MSU comes in with a 33.2 average.

The Bulldogs are allowing just 19.6 points a game while MSU surrenders 24.7 points a game.

MSU’s defense leads the SEC with 11 interceptions while the Bulldogs have tallied four.

“Hard To Kill”

Georgia has trailed early and late in five of its SEC games this year, and it is 4-1 in those contests. The Bulldogs have rallied to beat No. 15 Tennessee and Auburn on the road, No. 5 Ole Miss in Athens, and most recently, won their fifth straight over Florida in Jacksonville.

Georgia blanked then No. 17 Alabama and Auburn in the second half while Kentucky’s lone second half score came on a 23-yard drive with 1:51 left in the contest and the Bulldogs up 35-7. Trailing 35-26, Georgia outscored No. 5 Ole Miss 17-0 in the 4th quarter in its 43-35 win. Against Florida, Georgia fell behind 20-17 early in the 4th quarter and took the lead for good with 4:36 left.

The only league contest where Georgia led wire-to-wire was a 35-14 win over Kentucky while the only comeback that fell short came to No. 17 Alabama 24-21 in Athens that ended what at the time was an FBS-leading 33-game home winning streak.

Playing With FPE (Fire, Passion & Energy)

One of Georgia’s main themes during the preseason and now in 2025 will be to play with “FPE.” *Fifty-four percent of Georgia’s roster consists of players in their first or second season here.

The Bulldog defense has posted 14 scoreless quarters this season. Opponents have scored 96 points in the first half and just 58 in the second half of regulation.

UGA Football: Smart, Players Talk Mississippi State

ATHENS – Head coach Kirby Smart, defensive lineman Joseph Jonah-Ajonye, and wide receiver Noah Thomas met with the media Monday. They offered the following comments.

Head Coach Kirby Smart

Opening Statement
“It’s another week in the SEC, as we all know, a really good opponent, Mississippi State. I know Jeff [Lebby] well, he’s a good guy and done a great job with their program, the energy, enthusiasm coming out of that program. You can see it the way their kids play. They’ve got no quit in them, these guys have competed. They have been in every game they’ve played. They have upgraded the talent level since he’s been there. You look at the group he’s put together defensively, offensively, and on special teams. They got really good players all over the field. Our guys are going to be up for a great challenge this week. We’re going to their place and when you play on the road in the SEC, trust me, I played a lot of years and coached a lot of games at this place. It’s a tough place to play. They have a great fan base and Jeff [Lebby] and his staff have done an incredible job. We’re looking to start getting ready for these guys.”

On DL Jordan Hall, ILB Chris Cole and DB Demello Jones injuries…
“Jordan [Hall] will be out for some time, we are not sure how long, but he’ll be out for some time. Chris Cole, we have a chance to get back this week. I think he’s going to be able to play and be ready to go. He might be a little limited today, but he’ll be able to practice tomorrow. Demello [Jones], surprisingly, is better than we originally thought. He’s got some soreness in the elbow, but he may be able to play so we’re excited that the news wasn’t as significant as we thought. Jordan [Hall] is a tough one because that kids been through a lot injury-wise. He fought to get back last year towards the end of the year. He wasn’t even 100% healthy then, and then he had a good offseason and was really leading and competing and playing well for us. It’s a tough injury for him to sustain, and we’ll see what the timeline is once we know more later today and tomorrow.”

UGA Men’s Basketball: Georgia defeats Bellarmine in season opener, 104-59

ATHENS, Ga. – Led by 15 points apiece from Blue Cain and Jeremiah Wilkinson, the Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) defeated the Bellarmine Knights (0-1) 104-59 in their season opener at Stegman Coliseum on Monday night.

FAST FACTS
• Tonight’s victory marks the 300th of Mike White‘s career. White entered the season with 56 wins at Georgia’s helm, which represents the most ever by a Bulldog men’s basketball head coach in his first three seasons.
• After a tight first few minutes, Georgia used a 13-3 run over 3:37 to build a 30-18 lead with 8:59 left in the first half. The Bulldogs led by double figures for the rest of the game, with the lead topping out at game’s final margin of 45 points.
• In his collegiate basketball debut, Jake Wilkins announced his arrival by draining a corner three for his first career points, followed by a steal that led to a rim-rattling slam, which was followed up with another bucket for a solo seven-point run.
• Brandon Klatsky scored the first points of his collegiate career on a 3-pointer from the left corner with 57 seconds remaining in the game to push Georgia to the 100-point mark on the scoreboard. Klatsky added another bucket on a layup with 12 seconds left and dribbled out the clock following a steal on Bellarmine’s next possession.
• Georgia’s 45-point win was the Bulldogs’ largest margin of victory since defeating Seattle, 103-58, on Nov. 28, 1986.
• The Bulldogs scored 58 points in the paint and 50 off the bench.

Key Quotes:
Georgia Head Coach Mike White
On Jake Wilkins’ performance and capabilities…
“We’ve got really healthy competition in practice, and so he’ll have a couple practices a week where he has really good ones, as do other guys in their certain practices where maybe one of the other wings sticks out a little bit more. But he’s really talented. His composure, his maturity, his attention to detail, his basketball IQ, his coachability. Not only from us as a staff but also from his teammates  is something that I’ve commented on a bunch. He’s just atypical as a freshman and Kareem’s got a lot of that too. Asa is a guy that modeled it for incoming freshmen here at Georgia, and he’s a guy we reference a lot, and I think Jake’s just really bought into running his own race. It’s a process. It’s going to take a little bit of time because he’s got other players around him that he’s in competition with. There’s no one on our team that’s any more talented than he is. His attitude’s great and he’s getting better every day.”

On what 300 wins means for the team…
“One of my best friends texted me this morning. A guy actually, the first guy to hire me, got me into coaching at Jacksonville State named Mike LaPlante. He said “good luck tonight going for number 300″. I didn’t think about it again until after the game. But I’ve just been really fortunate. To coach really good players and great people. As much as anything,  working with great people and working at three big-time institutions. It’s just a great opportunity and I’m really fortunate.”
