ATHENS, Ga. — In front of a sellout crowd of 93,033 Saturday night at Sanford Stadium, No. 17 Alabama handed fifth-ranked Georgia its first home loss since 2019, 24-21, snapping the longest win streak in the Football Bowl Subdivision at 33 games.

Alabama led 14-0 a minute into the second quarter, and then held off Georgia just enough the rest of the way, including stopping the Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 SEC) on fourth down at the Crimson Tide 8 with 13:20 remaining in the game, with Alabama ahead 24-21. Georgia got 227 yards on the ground, including the first career 100-yard game from Chauncey Bowens, who ran for 119, and quarterback Gunner Stockton was 13 of 20 passing for 130 yards and a touchdown.

A year ago, Alabama (3-1, 1-0) snapped Georgia’s record 28-game SEC regular-season game win streak with a victory in Tuscaloosa. On Saturday, the Bulldogs had few answers for Alabama’s offense early in the game, and then couldn’t quite make enough plays offensively to tie or take the lead after cutting the Tide lead to 24-21 with 6:30 left in the third quarter.
