Georgia In The Polls This Week

The Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 SEC) check in at No. 6 in the Associated Press top 25 poll, No. 3 in the Coaches top 25 poll and No. 4 in the FWAA-NFF Super 16 poll.

Serious Streak In The Series As SEC Play Opens On The Road

Georgia and Tennessee first met on the gridiron in 1899, and the Bulldogs own a 29-23-2 advantage in the history of the series. Both teams enter the contest 2-0 and ranked in the top 15.

The Bulldogs have won the last eight meetings, which is the longest stretch of success against the Vols in school history. Georgia can match UT’s best streak in the series, which was nine straight that started in 1989 and then continued from 1992-1999.

The Bulldogs are 8-1 against the Vols under Kirby Smart. The lone defeat came in his first season (2016) and featured a Hail Mary for a 34-31 triumph in Athens. It marked the first home loss for Coach Smart who is 52-4 at home in his tenure.

In 2024, No. 12 Georgia erased an early 10-0 deficit to post a 31-17 victory over the No. 7 Vols. At halftime, the game was tied at 17 as the Bulldog defense would post a second half shutout. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs would tally two more score as the Vols yielded more than 18 points in a game for the first time that year. Georgia’s TD drives covered 75, 84, 87 and a season-long 92 yards. UT finished with 313 yards of offense after coming in averaging 472 and 37.6 points per game. Playing With FPE (Fire, Passion & Energy)

UGA Football: Smart, Players Look Ahead to Tennessee

ATHENS – Head coach Kirby Smart, offensive linemen Monroe Freeling, and defensive back Kyron Jones, met with the media Tuesday evening. They offered the following comments.

Head Coach Kirby Smart

On practice this week…
“It’s been good. Feels a little crisp and cooler in the air. Hasn’t been as hot. Guys have been spirited; they know it’s a big matchup. Had a good day of about a little over an hour of work on Monday and then about an hour and a half, two hours today, just finishing up. So, they’ve been in good spirits.”

On what has stood out about Gunner…
“Well, we’ve only had two days, they’ve been very similar, Monday, Tuesday that we’ve had in the weeks past. Good decision maker, protecting the ball, taking care of the ball, making good decisions. But it’s been very similar to recent weeks in terms of his work.”

On Tennessee offense evolving under Josh Heupel…
“It’s hard to say because, you know, he has different kind of ways to attack you defensively. They don’t do the same thing year to year. I think he utilizes the skill sets of that offense. They’ve had different types of wideouts, different types of quarterbacks, different types of backs. They do what good coaches do, they utilize the skill sets of the good players. I think they’ve used wrinkles from other teams. They get all this tape of teams that they play against, and there’s certain plays that maybe don’t fit their offensive philosophy, but they’re good plays, and then they turn them into theirs and do a good job mixing like everybody does. We call it copycatting, but they’ll look at plays and say, that play really works. How do we make it work for us? I think he’s done a great job of that over the years.”

UGA Football: Week 1 NFL Report

ATHENS, Ga. – The 2025 NFL season kicked off over the weekend, with a total of 48 former Bulldogs suiting up for their respective clubs.

Matthew Stafford eclipsed another major milestone. He became just the 10th quarterback in NFL history to surpass 60,000 career passing yards. Stafford’s 245 passing yards and one touchdown lifted the Rams over the Houston Texans in the win as well.

Former Bulldogs made an impact around the league, as five different players recorded nine total tackles or more. Meanwhile, Kamari Lassiter, Roquan Smith, and Tykee Smith led their respective teams in tackles. Tykee Smith’s 11 tackles against the Falcons tied a career high and ranked second among defensive backs in the NFL.
