UGA Women’s Basketball: Ayla Guzzardo Named Fourth Head Coach in Georgia History

ATHENS, Ga. โ€”ย Ayla Guzzardo, who led McNeese State to the best single-season turnaround in NCAA Division I women’s basketball with a school-record 29 wins this past season, has been named the fourth full-time head coach of Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball, J. Reid Parker Director of Athleticsย Josh Brooksย announced Sunday.

The three-time Southland Conference champion and Coach of the Year engineered a 19-win improvement in her lone season with the Cowgirls, taking the team from a 10-21 record the year before her arrival to a 29-6 mark during the 2025-26 campaign.

In addition to a school-record win total, the team won just the third conference title in McNeese State history. The Cowgirls also recorded their first victory over a Power 4 team since 2014.

UGA Women’s Basketball: Georgia and Katie Abrahamson-Henderson Mutually Agree to Part Ways

ATHENS, Ga. โ€”ย The University of Georgia and women’s basketball head coachย Katie Abrahamson-Hendersonย have mutually agreed to part ways, the UGA Athletic Association announced Saturday.

Abrahamson-Henderson compiled a 69-59 overall record with a pair of NCAA tournament appearances during her four seasons as Georgia’s head coach.

“We would like to thank Coach ABE for her leadership and wish her well moving forward,” J. Reid Parker Director of Athleticsย Josh Brooksย said. “We are committed to building on the proud tradition of Lady Bulldog basketball and will continue to support our program with the necessary resources for future success. We have an outstanding group of alumni and a dedicated fan base. Our search for a new head coach will focus on someone who will carry on this legacy and connect with our student-athletes, alumni and supporters in an impactful way.”

Georgia’s search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
