UGA Men’s Basketball: Georgia Holds On to Defeat Wake Forest, 80-77

ATHENS, Ga. — In his first game at Stegeman Coliseum, Noah Thomasson led the Georgia men’s basketball team in scoring with 21 points as the Bulldogs defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 80-77, before 8,176 spectators on Friday evening.

All five starters for the Bulldogs scored double figures. Thomasson added five boards and a team-best three assists to his 21 points, Jabri Abdur-Rahim totaled 17 points with three 3-pointers and four rebounds while Russel Tchewa finished with 11 points and six boards. Both RJ Melendez and Silas Demary Jr. had 10 points, also contributing six and five rebounds respectively. As a team, Georgia won the battle of the paint, outscoring Wake Forest in paint points by a 46-26 margin.

UGA Women’s Soccer: Georgia Advances to NCAA Second Round with 2-1 Win over Liberty

ATHENS, Ga. – A goal in the 85th minute powered the University of Georgia soccer team past Liberty, 2-1, in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament Friday evening before 1,483 spectators at the Turner Soccer Complex.

Graduate forward Hannah White and freshman defender Kiera Staude each put a goal on the board, with graduate midfielder Croix Bethune assisting on both. Bethune, redshirt freshman midfielder Summer Denigan and redshirt senior midfielder Nicole Vernis put up five shots apiece to lead the Georgia (12-4-5) offense. Five other Bulldogs posted shots on the evening as they outshot Liberty (16-3-1) by a 29-4 margin. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Brown tallied three saves in the 90 minutes of play.
