UGA Baseball: Dan Jackson Named a Baseball America NCAA Player of the Year Finalist

The awards and nominations just keep coming in for Georgia catcher Dan Jackson. After helping lead UGA to the SEC regular season crown and winning the SEC tournament, the UGA star is ready to lead the Dawgs further into the postseason. Already named a First Team All-American and SEC Tourney MVP, this is just the next award he’s been nominated for. Expect to see him as a top choice for the Golden Spikes Award also.

Jackson has played in 58 games this season. He has a .391 average, .449 OBP, .689SLG, 88 total hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 27 homeruns, 79 RBI, 77 runs scored, and 25 stolen bases in 27 attempts.

Jackson is joined by SS Roch Cholowsky-UCLA, Tague Davis-Louisville, Landon Hairston-Arizona State, and Vahn Lackey-Georgia Tech. Cholowsky won this award last season.

NCAA Football: Here’s What the New Bipartisan Legislation Says About Protecting College Sports

Here’s a breakdown of the “Protect College Sports Act” and what’s in it:

  • Players can transfer only once
  • Players have 5 years to play
  • Hard cap
  • Prohibit professional players from college athletics if they previously earned any compensation beyond prize money
  • Agents can charge a maximum of 5%
  • Coaches can’t leave before the season is over “Lane Kiffin Rule”
  • 75% vote needed for all leagues to pool TV rights
  • Grants the NCAA antitrust protections around compensation, transfers, and eligibility
  • Gives the College Sports Commission “CSC” authority to enforce rules without legal challenge
