UGA Football: Todd Monken Named Broyles Award Semifinalist

ATHENS, Ga. — Bulldog offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Todd Monken has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles Award, according to an announcement from the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation.

Given annually to college football’s top assistant coach, the Broyles Award included two other assistants from the Southeastern Conference as semifinalists.  Former Bulldog defensive coordinator and current Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was a Broyles finalist for Georgia in 2021 and 2019.  Georgia head coach Kirby Smart won the 2009 honor and was a finalist in 2015 while at Alabama.

Monken has directed an offense that is averaging 38.4 points per game (11th nationally) and 496.3 yards per contest (seventh nationally) through the Bulldogs’ undefeated start this season.  Georgia leads the country in Red Zone Offense as well, scoring on 59 of 61 opportunities with 40 touchdowns.

No. 1 Georgia (11-0, 8-0 SEC) concludes its regular season on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium versus Georgia Tech (5-6, 4-4 ACC) on Saturday.  ESPN will televise the matchup at 12 p.m.

UGA Men’s Basketball: Bulldogs Finish as Runner-Up at Sunshine Slam

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Georgia Bulldogs were unable to overcome an impressive second half from the UAB Blazers Tuesday night at the Ocean Center, falling in the championship game of the Greenlight Sunshine Slam by an 87-73 score.

Justin Hill led the Bulldogs in scoring for the fourth time this season, finishing with 17 points and four rebounds. Braelen Bridges added a season-best 10 points and seven boards, while Kario Oquendo had 12 points of his own. The production off the bench was again a bright spot for UGA, providing 36 points, highlighted by Bridges and Hill. The Blazers’ Jordan “Jelly” Walker led all scorers with 30 points while shooting 50% from the field.

“We were decent defensively in the first half, but I think in the second half it was more about UAB’s offensive output,” said head coach Mike White. “They got it going. We missed a couple of layups, missed a couple of open ones. They went on a run to build a seven-point lead, and the game was just different from then on.”
